Patrick has 26 years of experience as a lawyer and in the corporate sector. During this time,  Patrick has developed a wide range of experience in the property, banking and retail sectors including in specific areas such as franchising, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, business development as well as crises management and corporate litigation and more recently, legal documentation and structures for Islamic finance. Up until June 2010, Patrick was Head of Legal and Compliance for a GCC based Islamic bank in Malaysia. He was part of the founding team that set up the Islamic bank in Malaysia from scratch. As part of his legal, compliance and company secretarial functions, he was responsible for helping set up various off shore funds structures, primarily inLabuanincluding a real estate fund which invested in the landmark Pavilion project inKuala Lumpurand on whose board he sat as a representative of the Fund. Patrick has also represented the Islamic bank on the boards of other investments including in the Malaysia government’s Southern Corridor project, Iskandar Johor.

Patrick started his career in 1984 as a practicing lawyer in Malaysia specializing in banking, property and corporate litigation, after which he joined one of Malaysia’s leading financial services and property groups as its Chief General Counsel which included coverage of businesses and listed companies across 17 countries including the U.S., Australia and HK.  In 1997, Patrick was appointed President & CEO of the Group’s listed holding company in the Philippines, with control of a savings bank and credit card subsidiary and served as the Group’s Country Head for the Philippines till the year 2000. He stayed on in the Philippines to join a privately owned US branded retail-based group which was involved then with fashion (Guess), music  (Tower Records), fast food (Carls Jr) and fitness (Gold’s Gym) as Executive Director.

Upon his return to Malaysia in 2003, Patrick joined a public listed property company as its Corporate Affairs Director overseeing human resources, corporate communications, legal and special projects. During this time, he also served on the board of another associated listed company, and was acting Executive director for its departmental store business before joining the Islamic bank in April 2005.

Patrick studied in the UK from his A levels, and was admitted as an Utter Barrister to the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn in 1983.
